Student Ambassador / Tour Guide
Purpose
A Wilkes Admissions Ambassador is a student representative responsible for assisting the Admissions office. The purpose of this position is help the admissions team create the best possible experience for prospective students and their families. This will be done by phone or in person. This role will also entail data entry and office work. Student is also responsible for providing tours to prospective students and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for calling prospective students regarding upcoming Admissions-related events, fee waivers, missing documentation, and other calls a counselor may need
- Responsible for entering prospective student data into our Admissions recruiting software
- Relay pertinent information to prospective students while giving a campus tour

Advancement Workstudy
Purpose
The advancement work study will primarily help the advancement office in our efforts to correct errors and inconsistencies resulting in inaccurate reports from the Banner and Cognos systems. Other office duties, and occasional assistance with alumni and development events is also required.

Campus Support Services Intern
Purpose
The Campus Support Services intern will be assisting the executive director and manager of custodial and grounds with an ongoing space management project. Duties will include taking measurements of various university properties, map and blueprint analyses, and statistical reporting in order to maximize the efficiency of various processes on campus. The intern will gain knowledge in several key areas including: resource and space management as defined by National Center for Education Statistics Postsecondary Education Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual (FICM); reading and comparing maps and blueprints; FICM regulations and codes; master room and master facility inventory tracking and analysis; and facilities assessment. The intern will also have an opportunity to shadow the executive director of facilities for other operational tasks such as TAP projects, preventative maintenance and capital assets programs.
This position requires accuracy, attention to detail, numerate and analytical skills, and some experience or an interest in data collection and analysis. Students at all levels of education are invited to apply.

Purpose
To assist the custodial team in the cleaning and disinfecting of the campus.

Mover and Event Setup Helper
Purpose
To assist with the daily operations of the General Maintenance Technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- The position assists with set-ups associated with University events (e.g. graduations, orientations, homecoming, various events and performances), logistical moves and campus deliveries (e.g. furniture, equipment, supplies).
- Provides support with seasonal grounds maintenance and care.
- Flexible work hours anytime between 6:30a.m. and 3:00p.m. 7 days a week.

General Chemistry Lab TA
Purpose
The chemistry teaching assistant will assist the instructor in teaching the assigned lab section and assist the stockroom staff in maintaining the laboratory in a neat and orderly fashion. Lab safety is number one for everyone in the lab. As a teaching assistant your duty is to prevent accidents whenever you are in the chemical laboratory or stockroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare for lab by reviewing the lab manual and any handouts prior to coming to work. Reading the laboratory manual during the lab period sets an unprofessional example. Come to lab at least 10 minutes early to check the lab.
- Make sure chemicals and supplies are adequate for your section.
- While in lab enforce safety regulations. Make sure students are wearing Lab goggles and face masks. Make sure to sanitize and disinfect all areas that student touched.
- Help students. Circulate among the students and answer their questions to the best of your ability. A good TA will offer help but will not do the work for the student. Lounging about the stockroom or corridor, socializing with any individual, or studying for your classes is unacceptable.
- Demonstrate the use of equipment. Demonstrate technique.
- During lab, the TA will be the contact person for the students whenever they need anything from the stockroom. Therefore the TA must take care of the following stockroom related duties: Get items needed from the stockroom, file breakage slips in the stockroom until the items are returned, and return items for students when lab is finished.
- After the experiment has been completed, the TA must make sure the lab room is ready for use by the next class by having students clean out bench and hood, paying particular attention to the balances.
- Turn off equipment. Refill chemicals and make sure caps are on bottles. Check that all water and gas jets are fully turned off and lock doors.

Activity Assistant for adult and children's classes at Gather Community Center
Purpose
The purpose of the position is to represent the community center, monitoring comings and goings while classes are being held, assisting the instructors as needed, helping to set up and break down rooms, remaining alert to any unusual occurrences and reporting them promptly to Gather Community Space (GCS) staff. Maintaining cleanliness and functionality of the center.

Purpose
The mission of the Wilkes University First Year Student e Mentoring Program is to ease the transition of new students to college and provide a supportive environment for academic success and personal growth. The program helps each new student connect with peers, upperclassmen, and the institution as a whole.
A First Year Student e-Mentor is a full-time undergraduate student who leads a group of
approximately 12-25 new students throughout the first semester of their career at Wilkes University, beginning at summer Orientation and concluding at the end of the 2024 fall semester.
The main objectives of the FYS e-Mentor program are:

Purpose
The purpose of the position is to represent the University in a positive way by providing excellent customer service. Each student is employed to serve as a resource and ambassador for Wilkes University. Student info desk workers provide clear and concise information, via telephone or in person, about the Henry Student Center, University, and/or Community.

Peer Consultant
Purpose
The Writing Center is located near the Alden Learning Commons in the E.S. Farley Library basement. Writing Center consultants meet with students of all disciplines to assist in every stage of the writing process, including the planning, drafting, and revision of essays. Peer consultants will work closely with student writers in the following ways:
• Planning: consultants will go over assignments with students, helping them brainstorm, organize, and outline ideas for essays. Consultants will also advise students in effective reading and pre-writing strategies.
• Drafting: consultants will offer advice and feedback on drafts as they are being written. They may offer feedback on thesis statements, structure, organization, and mechanics.
• Revision: consultants will help students respond to instructors’ specific feedback and develop a solid revision strategy.
• Research: consultants will advise students on effective research approaches (such as using the Farley Library databases and catalog).

Key Responsibilities
- Consultants will conduct 30-45 minute writing consultations within the Writing Center, or via the Online Writing Center, as assigned. Consultants work 2-6 hours per week, in most cases.
- Consultants will also attend scheduled training sessions (described below), in order to increase their understanding of Writing Center theory and improve their skills as tutors. Consultants are also required to attend certain workshops, events, and conference sessions sponsored by the Writing Center.

Purpose: Reading Buddies is a unique volunteer-driven early literacy initiative that connects mentors to students in kindergarten and first grade who need extra help. Students receive individual attention and access to free books. The program is designed to improve students’ fundamental building blocks of early literacy. By fourth grade, students have transitioned from LEARNING TO READ to READING TO LEARN. This fundamental skill of reading is essential. Students not reading proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school or not finish high school on time.
Job Duties/Responsibilities Summary: All tutors will be required to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week to this position. Tutors will work to increase the reading and writing proficiency skills of children. Tutors will be trained by the United Way and a student leader. They will be given support, instruction, and additional materials from teacher, coordinator and trainer. Times for tutoring sessions vary throughout the week but will be held at varying times Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Tutors must be eligible for Federal Work Study in order to participate and be paid.
Qualifications: Tutors must be eligible for federal work-study funding as determined by their FAFSA and Wilkes Financial Aid. Previous experience working with children is preferred, however, not necessary. Tutors must be motivated, resourceful, dependable, and willing to engage in ongoing tutor and program development. A commitment to working in racially, ethnically, and economically diverse communities is a must. Tutors must pass a background check.
Preferred Majors: Open to all majors and all years. No previous tutoring experience is necessary; all tutors will be trained prior to tutoring.
